Mission

Our mission is to help families of substance abusers before they are ready for treatment.


Professional Staff

Otto B. Schultz, M. Div., LADC, RPG

In the last 25 years, Otto Schultz has coached thousands of family members, business and professional people in using intervention tools.

He was Director of Lancaster Substance Abuse Action Coalition for 3 years and named Outstanding Treatment Professional for Lancaster County in 2006.

He holds a Master of Divinity degree. He is also a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADC) and a Registered Prevention Generalist with over 30 years of experience in the field and 35 years of personal recovery. He has conducted hundreds of workshops to teach families, business leaders and professional people how to use a variety of interventions.

In 1997, he turned his attention to the high-risk drinking of college students. Both his training as a clergyman and his life of personal recovery give him a wealth of empathy for people who have been hurt by alcohol or other drugs.

Duane “Duke” Engel MA, LADC, LMHP

Duke has been in the counseling field for over 35 years, serving in many counseling and management positions including being the Director of the Independence Center for 6 years. He is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Licensed Mental Health Practitioner. He has also coached thousands of family members, business and professional people in using intervention tools.

Duke was Chairperson of the State Advisory Committee for Alcohol and Drugs in 1999 and was Nebraska Substance Abuse Provider of the Year in 1996.
